Housekeeping Volunteer
Location: Skanda Vale Hospice, Saron, Llandysul, SA44 5DY, with some remote working if wanted.
Hours: Completely negotiable – some housekeeping volunteers offer time every week, others support on a monthly basis or to prepare or clean up around special events in our calendar
Supported by: Housekeeping Lead.
Overview
This role suits people who notice things. Housekeeping volunteers take quiet pride in doing something well and understand that order, freshness and care in a space change how people feel.
You might be folding warm laundry, cleaning a room, or quietly restoring order after a busy day. It’s practical, steady work that creates the conditions for care to happen well.
As a housekeeping volunteer, you’ll be part of a kind, grounded team who understand that some of the most important contributions don’t draw attention to themselves — and who value them all the same.
And yes, it’s fun in the way good volunteering often is: familiar faces, good conversation and the simple satisfaction of leaving a place better than you found it. Hours are flexible. Training and support are provided. The impact is real.
At Skanda Vale Hospice, housekeeping doesn’t just “make a difference” — cleaning makes peace possible, comfort easier, and care feel complete.

What you’ll be doing:
- Cleaning: Tasks such as sweeping, mopping, dusting, vacuuming, and disinfecting surfaces. This may be in bedrooms, bathrooms or throughout the hospice.
- Laundry: Collecting, sorting, washing, drying, folding and distributing fresh laundry ready for use.
- Waste management: Disposing of waste, including recycling and handling of hazardous materials, to maintain a clean and sanitary environment.
- Restocking: keeping an eye on our cleaning supplies, toiletries and other essentials, and letting our Housekeeping Lead know if we need to restock to ensure supplies are always available.
- Helping with infection control: Following our in-house procedures and the use of personal protective equipment when needed.
- Keeping to health and safety: Following regulations and procedures, including the safe handling and storage of cleaning chemicals and equipment.
- Observing and reporting: Reporting any maintenance issues, safety concerns, or cleaning-related challenges to the Housekeeping Lead.
- Working as part of a wider team to keep the building fresh, clean and welcoming.

- Enthusiasm: Have an eye for detail to keep the high standards of cleanliness we need throughout the hospice.
- Reliability: with a sense of commitment to giving your best.
- Initiative: to tackle any areas that need attention.
Training & support:
- Our housekeeping volunteers will receive induction, training on cleaning procedures, infection control practices and health and safety.
- Ongoing support will also be provided by the Housekeeping Lead to ensure they feel confident and capable in their role.
